The Mean of Cosplay
Majority said it was through an experience at a convention. A lot of people did research before going to their first con, and finding out that cosplaying was a way to enjoy the event even more as it gave them a chance to dress up as their favourite characters. The other thing that was common in the replies was the shared idea between siblings or friends. The main reason, is the appreciation of the characters. What other way can you show your love for a character than becoming that character, temporarily of course. The thing that also caught my eye, was said by “TheCat” from thatguywiththeglasses.com, “There’s also the attention. Most people don’t cosplay only for attention, but very few cosplayers hate the attention. It’s nice getting your picture taken, having people appreciate your cosplay costume, and people starting conversations with you about whatever show or game you’re cosplaying from”. It is all about the getting the best atmosphere you can from an event, even if you help improve some one else’s day by dressing up as their favourite character, as well as your own.
The main idea is to have fun, not impress. Even if you have a bad experience, its an experience. All experiences help you build confidence. The other thing people said, we live in a world where the internet is a big help. Do some research first, and ask advice from different sources, theres plenty of forums out there, and groups on facebook.
